CMC (sodium carboxymethyl cellulose) is a very versatile product, available in many brands and types. It is derived from cellulose, nature's most abundant polymer.
CMC is an anionic water soluble polymer. This determines its basic physical properties: solubility (dissolution behavior), rheology (viscosity) and adsorption on surfaces. An application's properties can be derived from these basic properties.
Although other gums with comparable properties are available on the market, CMC is frequently the product of choice due to its favorable price/ performance ratio. There is a variety of different end-uses in numerous industries.
